06/23/2010 - Las Vegas, NV (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The National Hockey League announced its season-ending awards on Wednesday night, with a distinctly European flavor.
Vancouver Canucks forward Henrik Sedin took home the Hart Memorial Trophy as the player deemed most valuable to his team, while Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin was given the Ted Lindsay Award as the best player in the NHL as voted by the Players' Association for the third straight season.
Sedin, part of a tandem with identical twin brother Daniel, enjoyed a career- defining season last year. The 29-year-old native of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden posted 29 goals, 83 assists and 112 points -- far and away career-bests -- in 82 regular-season games.
He followed it up with three goals and 14 points in 12 playoff contests as the Northwest Division-winning Canucks advanced to the Western Conference semifinals.
"Thanks to all the fans in Vancouver, especially those who have supported us over the last 10 years or so," Sedin said when accepting the award. "Thanks to Markus Naslund, Mattias Ohlund and Sami Salo (veteran Swedish teammates) for taking care of us for the first few years. There's no real way I can thank you enough."
Sedin became just the second Swedish-raised player in league history and first in Canucks' franchise history to win the NHL's most prestigious individual award. Peter Forsberg -- also a native of Ornskoldsvik -- was the first when he won in 2003 for the Colorado Avalanche.
He received 46 first-place votes among the 133 total ballots cast and wound up with 894 points to edge out Ovechkin, who posted 40 first-place votes and 834 total points.
Denied a chance at a third consecutive Hart, Ovechkin nonetheless finished his fifth NHL campaign with 50 goals and 109 points in 72 games -- marking the third straight time he eclipsed the 100-point mark in his career. He also reached the 50-goal mark for the fourth time.
"First of all, I was real nervous, but it's a big honor to win the award. It means a lot," said Ovechkin. "I'd like to thank (head coach) Bruce Boudreau, all my fellow players, head coaches and trainers."
The Moscow native tied with Penguins star forward Sidney Crosby for the second-most points in the league, as the Capitals posted franchise-bests in wins and points while taking home the Presidents' Trophy for best record in the NHL as well as a Southeast Division crown.
For the third consecutive season, Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk took home the Selke Trophy as the top defensive forward in the NHL. Datsyuk completed his eighth NHL season by posting 27 goals and 70 assists in 80 regular-season games. He followed that by recording six goals and 13 points in 12 playoff contests. The 31-year-old Russian became the first player since Bob Gainey to win three straight Selkes. Gainey took home the first four awards from 1978-81.
Datsyuk was denied a chance at an unprecedented fifth straight Lady Byng Trophy for gentlemanly play. That was taken this season by Martin St. Louis of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Phoenix Coyotes bench boss Dave Tippett won the Jack Adams Award, which is given annually to the NHL head coach judged to have contributed the most to his team's success.
Tippett guided the Coyotes to a franchise best 50-25-7 record and second place finish in the Pacific Division. Phoenix reached the playoffs for the first time since 2002 but bowed out in the first round to Detroit. It is the second time since the franchise moved to Phoenix that one of its head coaches won this honor -- the other being Bob Francis in 2002.
Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith won the Norris Trophy, which is given to the defenseman voted to display the best all-around talent in the NHL.
Keith, a five-year veteran, finished last season with career highs in goals (14), assists (55) and points (69). He also ended with a plus-21 rating in 82 regular-season games. The 26-year-old Winnipeg native also showed brilliance in the playoffs, recording two goals and 17 points in 22 contests for the Stanley Cup winners.
Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller took home the silver for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender. Miller, a Michigan State product, finished last season with a 41-18-8 record with a 2.22 goals-against average and tied a career-best with five shutouts. He becomes the first Sabres netminder to win the award since Dominik Hasek did so for the final time back in 2001.
In a double dip, Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers was chosen as the Calder Trophy winner as the top rookie. The 20-year-old finished his first pro campaign with 11 goals and 48 points while playing in all 82 contests. He became the first Sabres player to take home the award since goaltender Tom Barrasso won in 1984.
Other winners on the night were Washington goaltender Jose Theodore, who overcame the premature death of his son last summer to be honored with the Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance and dedication to hockey; Crosby took home the Messier Award for leadership on and off the ice; Coyotes captain Shane Doan received the King Clancy for humanitarian contributions;
Also, Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils captured the William Jennings Trophy. The beneficiary of a system which preaches defensive responsibility, Brodeur, along with seldom-used backup Yann Danis, allowed the fewest total goals in the league.

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
